Legends of Tangra Episode I —The Dark Baroness
A Short Film

Legends of Tangra is an experimental series of 20-25 minute short episodes, to be released on a seasonal basis. I hope to have Episode I (Fall episode) ready for release (and hopeful viewing at the Bug Theatre in Denver) by/on January 16th, 2006. Soonsville!

This is the first film I’ve shot in the splendid 24 p film mode. Footage looks so much better than straight video...very romantic stuff. Moreover, the cast and crew equaled to an unprecedented 23 souls—about six times the number of people I’m used to working with at one time. This makes a huge difference in the final product. Henceville, with new equipage and major support, I’m psyched to develop this mini-series. Groovy.

The “experimental” part of this series stems from: 1) having to rely on so many principle actors, all of whom are volunteers; and 2) major time constraints. This first episode was filmed in less than seven hours. It was extremely challenging to capture in that time frame, what was required for the entire episode.

Tangra is an anti-hero and wizard from the land of Gruhi. Episode I: The Dark Baroness.

This misadventure revolves around the kidnapping of a six-year-old gifted village girl, Mishka. The Dark Baroness has abducted the girl so as to posses her soul, but first she must be returned to the Baroness’ castle, which requires going through the haunted and enchanted forest.

In pursuit of the Baroness and her dark guards, the villagers are confronted by her black magic. The Baroness raises the dead to cover her tracks and thwart the villagers. Tangra arrives at the battle a bit late, and...well, I hope you’ll tune in for the outcome. Peace, John. 11-3-05.
