Projection is the result of one 3.5 minute role of super 8mm film. My newly purchased Canon XL 514 (an extremely popular super 8 camera from the late 1970's) did the job. It comes with a 1.14 size lens aperture; macro and manual zoom. That's how I got the super close-ups of my fingers. The 514 XL shoots with single frame as well, which is how I got the time lapse effect of XZanthia (Projection's one groovy/alternative actress) and the fast -- back and forth -- action of the vine-covered dwelling. Besides, this version of the 514 XL shoots with 9 frames as well as 18 (others have 18 frames as well as 24) The 9-frame option allowed for the fast motion effect.

I hope to capture much of Bulgaria with this camera and this one reel was merely to test the camera. The footage came out so nicely, I could not help but to make a short film out of it. Moreover, I experimented with filming the projected image of the reel with a digital camera that captures in 24 frames). This explains the odd angles as well as the small images that seem to float about in the flick...a film of a film, per se.

Hope you enjoy the flicker. Peace, John. 6-10-06
