Groovy Kids

Kids are some of the grooviest artists I’ve come across. Fresh talent...too young to come with much baggage...whatever may be the reason, I dig how they perceive the art world and express themselves through it. This page is dedicated to them. groovyfilms thanks you!

Peaceville, the Hartman, a.k.a. Jesus sub.

Groovy Kids

Videographers: The Jacobb and The Carter. Both 15.

Jacobb worked with me on Karma Rider, two years ago. For the young age of 13, Jacobb amazed me with his camera angles and steady hand. Jacobb and Carter worked with me on Grave Stoned in October, 2005. Actually, Carter's hand was used (with the 2 doll scenes) so he qualifies as an actor as well. Groovy. We had to stay up all night, as it was the Boulder 24-hour Shoot Out. Thanks for going the distance to get the film completed!

Musicians: Kaiser Sunshine Band—The Aric, The Trevor, both 16.

Seldom do I come across music that's more suitable for groovyfilms.biz. The Kaiser Sunshine tuneage reminds me of old basement recordings of Led Zepplin or Budgie—there’s a 70s band few are likely to recognize. Simple stuff but way, way profound. I’d venture to say ingenious. I can listen to their stuff ever day and not grow tired of it. Thanks for the sunshine. Keep the groove-train a goin’. KS tunes are currently being incorporated into 2 groovy films: Secession Path and Adventures of Pedro.

Actor: The George, 17.

Found this guy strumin’ his violin and thought he’d make the perfect emo/goth for a cell phone flick (Daymare) that I’m currently working on. George isn’t a trained actor but can act, for sure. Groovy gothic thanks, bro.

Actor: The Ari, 18.

Ari blew me away with her performance in Legends of Tangra. A striking performer with an equally striking look. I hope we can work together again someday before the winds of Hollywood sweep you away. Thanks to the Lady of the Lake.

Other Groovy Kids

Actor: The Regan, 7.

Young Regan is groovyfilms’ youngest actor. With the support of her mother Esther, and friend Kazumi, Regan has been groovy-brilliant in three films: Grave Stoned, Legends of Tangra, and Daymare. Go, Regan!

Actor: The Joe, 18.

Joe Fillipone is a groovy, dedicated cast and crew member for groovyfilms. Staying up all night for Grave Stoned or being buried in a ditch and covered with leaves for Legends of Tangra, Joe gives all he’s got and more. The Fillipone rocks!

Actor / John’s Nephew: The Kyle, 17.

My nephew, Kyle, has also participated in four groovy flicks (the standard I use for groovyfriends “initiation proclamation” is three films). Hence, Kyle should receive recognition. His devotion finds him in: Karma Rider, Bark of The Tree, Secession Path, Video Kingdom, and (although it’ll likely never be released) The Promise.

Actors: The Dana, 15 and The Will, 17.

Dana (girl in the red dress) was a breath of fresh air (as were all the girls), balancing out a primarily male-oriented film. She was the only girl with a speaking role and seemed perfectly suited as a typical southern belle.

Will (the guard with the rifle), was an extremely convincing soldier who really knew the drill. Moreover, he acted as videographer when needed. I think the whole Neuse II boat scene would have been much less without him.

Actor: The Ted’s Son, 13.

Although it strained him to hold up that heavy musket all afternoon (just joking buddy, we know you’re tough), Ted’s son was very dedicated to Secession Path and quite pleasant to work with. He made a convincing soldier, for sure.

Actor: The Tyler, 15.

Tyler came to Secession Path with much enthusiasm. He’s more than a reenactor, although he does that well, he lives to act. He’s the only actor I’ve ever worked with who dies perfectly on cue every single time and always has a death left in him at the end of the day. Way to go Tyler!

Actor: The Amber, 12.

Amber accompanied her mother Staci on the set of Legends of Tangra, and what a groovy surprise...she was not cast to be in the film but we’re really glad she participated because she’s an outstanding (apparently natural) actress.

Cast / Crew / Zee’s Daughter: The Astara, 17.

Astara played a blue screen monster in Legend of Tangra. Well, Astara, you are the grooviest moving blue screen I know. She also did voice over work in Daymare.

The Original Groovy Kids

Teen Preacher Electric, 1980-81

Actor / Director: John Hartman, 15.

Teen Preacher Electric (TPE) was John’s first directorial debut. A impromptu script that was a satirical view of the electric/charismatic church.

Actor: Brad Fischel, 15.

Teen preacher follower. Brad’s exaggerated movements made the film much more interesting.

Actor: Mike Corder, 14.

Another follower, Mike was the best brain-washed actor, for sure.

Actor: Tom Carmody, 14.

Tom didn’t appear much in the film but added to the flick with the best crazed (over-exposed) look there was.

Brother: Walter Hartman, 17.

Walter wasn’t actually in the flick, but was added to it from an equally rare 1981 8mm three-minute film.
