for

2006 for
Colorado filmmakers...
The First Annual
supergroovy8
12-hour
filmmaking festival
This “reel” contest provides the ultimate challenge in the filmmaking experience.
The super-8mm camera you use has to have been a model manufactured between 1967-1979. Two 3.5-minute long cassettes must be used, or three 2.5-minute cassettes—this depends on whether you use the standard 18 or 24 frames per second. The film length may not exceed 8 minutes. 8 rocks! You will have 12 or 16 hours to film (to be determined).
Each cassette must indicate one thing of a groovy nature. (groovy: something neat in a “hip” way) The word or concept of “super” or concept of 8 must be incorporated at least one time in any of the 2 or 3 cassettes you use. Sound is optional, if you can get your hands on super 8mm sound film and get it processed.
You (or a volunteer) shall develop your film.
No in-camera editing is possible, i.e. retakes are not possible because you can’t rewind!
Buying a super-8mm camera is possible on the Internet for as little as under $10. Film cassettes cost between $10 and $20 each. (B&W is less expensive.) There is a nominal registration fee of $28.88 per team. The Top 8 winners shall have their films placed on a DVD that will be submitted to super-8mm film festivals around the world. Top 8 winners shall all receive a surprise vintage gift. The number one winner receives 8 vintage gifts and an $888.88 grand prize.
Sponsors and volunteers are encouraged to venture forth to make the supergroovy8mm 12-hour Film Festival a reality! For now, it is merely a proposal…Let’s please keep super-8mm alive.
We can’t do it without you...
